25 Signs That'll Make You Want To Know The Full Story

Two oddly specific signs.

Some signs tell you what to do. Others make you wonder what happened.

There is a particular kind of sign that seems far too specific to have been written without a reason. It doesn't simply say “Do Not Enter” or “No Parking.” Instead, it prohibits one oddly precise behavior that makes you immediately wonder who did it, how often they did it, and what finally happened that convinced someone a sign was necessary.

Sometimes the explanation is probably mundane. Maybe people kept leaving something somewhere they shouldn't. Maybe visitors repeatedly ignored a basic request. Maybe one particularly annoying habit became common enough that management finally decided to address it directly.

But the more specific the sign gets, the harder it is not to imagine something much more dramatic. You start wondering if there was an argument, an accident, a bizarre misunderstanding or one person who simply refused to stop doing the exact thing the sign now prohibits.

That's what makes these signs a form of visual storytelling. They don't give you the beginning or middle of the story. They just give you the conclusion.

The sign is the evidence that something happened, while the circumstances surrounding it are left entirely to your imagination.

Of course, we rarely know the actual story. The sign might have been installed after one bizarre event, or it might be the result of months of people repeatedly causing the same problem. Either way, the lack of context is what makes these signs so compelling.

Here are 25 signs that seem to have skipped the explanation and gone straight to the consequences. We may never know exactly what happened, but judging by some of these warnings, someone definitely knows.
