A Street Artist Had A Year Long Battle With Authorities, This Is How It Went Down

Back in 2014, a street artist in London decided to run a little experiment involving a red wall and his tag. It all began when he noticed that the wall was cleaned differently depending on where the graffiti was, and that intrigued him. He had noticed that any graffiti in the red area would be buffed out with red pain, but anything on the blank wall would be pressure washed, why was that?

Mobstr took it upon himself to push this theory to its limits, tagging the wall over and over again, and then seeing it cleaned over and over. Slightly chaotic? Yes. Entertaining and a tad interesting? Also, yes. While this mischief was likely annoying for the street cleaner, it made for a year of images that Mobstr arranged into a sort of gallery.

Take a moment to see the progression of Mobstr's street experiment, and see how things changed as the year went by. From one spot of graffiti, to a whole new wall.

He went further

Ever so often, something different would be added to the red wall. Adding to the chaos and the mischief of this whole experiment, and giving the cleaner something to do, I suppose.

A bit more

Seeing something added to the original tag is a fun little surprise, and this one is kind of cute. Someone else in the area was probably also observing the experiment in real time.

Going off the red wall

This is when things started heating up. What would happen when the tag finally leaves the red section, will it be covered, or will it be washed?

Hmm…

What might happen?

Now, a direct comparison. Some graffiti on each part of the wall, right next to one another.

Oh?

For some reason, half of it was left, and only the red part was buffed out, why would that be?

(Source: Mobstr)

What about it?

He made sure to ask about the part that was left behind. Do they not care?

More red

Turns out, they went above the red line, breaching the supposed barrier.

Sure did

Cleaner in action

Someone even caught the street cleaner in action. I wonder if it was the same one every time.

Here we go again

What the?!

And here is where the cleaner finally met his match. Let's just paint the whole wall one colour.

That's one way to do it

Well played.
