What Is 'Corn Dog Cat'? The Absurd Cat-Corndog Meme Character Explained
Have you ever looked at a corn dog and thought, "This would be a lot better if it had a cat's head on it?"
Probably not, but the internet apparently did. "Corn Dog Cat," also known as "Corndog Cat" or "Corncat," is a bizarre Photoshop edit that combines an orange cat with a corn dog, creating a food-animal hybrid that looks exactly as dumb as it sounds.
What started as a simple image edit eventually became a full-blown brainrot character, with people adding effects, props and increasingly ridiculous environments to the creature.
By the mid-2020s, Corn Dog Cat had even spawned an entire family of food-based cat hybrids, because apparently one cat stuck onto a snack wasn't enough.
So, where did Corn Dog Cat come from, who is the real-life cat behind the meme, and how did a photoshopped corn dog become a brainrot icon? Let's find out.
Where Does 'Corn Dog Cat' Come From?
The corn dog used in the original Corn Dog Cat image can be traced back to a stock photograph taken by photographer Richard Ernest Yap.
The image was uploaded to Shutterstock on April 17th, 2018, under the title "Perfect corn dog sold in convenient stores in Japan," showing a person holding a corn dog between their fingers with a street scene in the background. Yap later uploaded the photograph to iStock on July 6th.
The earliest known upload of the Corn Dog Cat meme itself appeared several years later.
On February 23rd, 2022, the Instagram account @lovemyorangekitty posted an image combining the stock photo with an orange cat, seamlessly editing the animal's head onto the corn dog. The post received over 140 likes in roughly four years.
The cat used in the image is named Honey, also known as Nunu. Following the meme's later virality, Honey received her own TikTok account under the handle @originalcorncat, which was created in August 2025.
Although the original Photoshop edit predates the account by several years, Honey's identity helped give Corn Dog Cat a real-life feline counterpart as the character continued spreading online.
How Is 'Corn Dog Cat' Used In Memes?
Similar to other brainrot animals in recent years, Corn Dog Cat gradually spread through social media as an absurdist brainrot character, with users treating the original image as a template for increasingly ridiculous edits.
Rather than having a specific joke or meaning, the character's appeal largely comes from its inherent absurdity: It is simply a cat's head attached to a corn dog, and people kept finding new ways to make that concept even stranger.
Corn Dog Cat experienced another resurgence on TikTok in mid-2026, when users began creating new brainrot edits and experimenting with other food-cat combinations based on the original character.
The trend effectively turned Corn Dog Cat into the starting point for an entire genre of bizarre food-animal hybrids.
For example, on July 24th, 2026, TikToker @popsiclehotdog posted an animation featuring Corn Dog Cat alongside two other variants: MuffinCat, which combines a cat with a muffin, and CarrotCat, which combines one with a carrot.
