Google's failed social media apps are coming back to haunt them once again as TikTok users revive a 2023 meme trend about a fake app called "Google Giggles."

If you're unfamiliar with the 2023 trend, Google Giggles is essentially a fake Google app created as a way of making fun of the tech giant's social media apps, all of which have failed. Now, a real "Giggles" app has revived the memes three years later.

So what is the origin of the Google Giggles meme, and is it a real app now? Here's what we know.

What Is The 'Google Giggles' Meme And Trend?

In February 2023, TikToker @kai_brisk posted a now-deleted TikTok that was meant to look like a video filmed and uploaded in 2016. TikToker @ivano0_m commented on the video, "Bro got banned from Google Giggles," gaining over 22,000 likes in just two months.

Google Giggles is not a real social media platform, but is meant as a parody of a Google-branded social media app like Google Plus, which was closed after eight years back in April 2019. Google Plus is only one of several failed attempts at Google social media sites.

This comment went viral in 2023 and inspired a whole wave of memes that imagine Google Giggles as a real social media platform.

How Is 'Google Giggles' Used In Memes?

In 2023, memes that pretend as if Google Giggles is a real social media platform garnered significant spread on TikTok. These memes tend to make fun of the fake platform as a way of mocking Google's social media platform attempts in general.

Then, in November 2025, a real social media app called Giggles launched. Although the app is not made by Google, its icon resembles other Google-related imagery, consisting of simple colored shapes in the shape of a smiley face.

This app has now revived the memes about Google Giggles, and TikTokers are once again posting memes that reference Google Giggles as if it's a real platform, with most of the memes making fun of it for being inferior to apps like TikTok and Instagram Reels.

Some memes, however, ironically hype Google Giggles up as being superior to all of the other social media apps as it grows an ironic fandom online.
