The so-called "Healing Eyes" meme, or "There Was A Healing," first popped up in 2024, and it's still on the internet's mind years later, having inspired countless memes about the things that heal us in the past two years.

What Is The 'There Was A Healing' Meme?

The "There Was A Healing" meme comes from an X thread that started on September 26th, 2024. The thread began when user @aIexrudd posted an image of Chris Griffin telling Peter Griffin from Family Guy that there was a shooting. The tweet is captioned, "Does anyone know how to be happy?"

Another user responded, "6 beers. 10 cigarettes. New woman by Lalisa ft. Rosalía. Flirt with old man on Grindr, then block him. Family Guy funny moments compilation. IN. THAT. ORDER."

The original poster responded with an edit of the same Family Guy screenshot that adds sets of blue and brown watery eyes to Peter and Chris. The subtitle has been changed from "there was a shooting" to "there was a healing." From there, the post was screenshotted and went viral across social media.

How Is 'There Was A Healing' Used In Memes?

The healing meme went viral over the following years on sites like TikTok, X and Instagram, first as the subject of reposts, then as the subject of referential memes.

These memes take the same blue and brown eyes and attach them to new subjects, sometimes with added music and visuals.

Since then, the meme has become increasingly popular online, devoid of its original reference to Family Guy.

In 2026, the meme had a resurgence on TikTok between July and September 2026 as users attached the eyes to a wider variety of subjects.

This new resurgence is largely set to the instrumentals for the song "I Choose You" by f5ve, and the edits are sometimes paired with captions about something that might "heal" you.
