Twitter users have found a new reaction meme to portray their disappointment or disbelief, and it comes from the 2006 animated comedy Monster House.
The meme uses a frame of the character Reginald Skulinski eating from one of the movie's most iconic scenes, which has actually been spreading as a meme in the Monster House fandom since 2018.
So, where does the Monster House eating meme come from, and how is Reginald's deadpan stare being used in 2026? Here's what you need to know.
What Is The 'Monster House' Meme Of Reginald Skulinski?
Monster House is a 2006 animated horror-comedy movie about a living house that eats people. After learning about this, the film's protagonists decide to put an end to the monster before Halloween to stop it from eating trick-or-treaters.
In one scene in the movie, the protagonists, a group of children, go to a hybrid arcade and pizza restaurant and talk to an employee named Reginald "Skull" Skulinski. Skull knows that the house is a monster and gives them information on how to defeat it.
Before Skull leaves, he says to the kids, "I won't be seeing you later," then starts to walk off. Suddenly, he turns, walks back up to the kids, snatches a piece of food from one of their hands, and eats it while giving them a dead-eyed stare.
This became one of the most memorable scenes from the film going forward, and started to inspire some edits on YouTube as early as 2018.
One of the earliest viral edits is by YouTuber BAP, who altered the clip to make it look like Reginald eats a doll of Rem from the anime Re:Zero.
The video was posted in 2021 and has been reposted online many times since. Now, the scene has inspired an even bigger meme over on sites like Twitter / X.
How Is The 'Reginald Skulinski Eating' Meme Used Online?
As the meme evolved, a single frame of Skull's wide-eyed, staring face while eating started spreading as a reaction image and image macro meme format.
The memes started gaining significant attention throughout March and April 2026 as Twitter users picked up on the format. They began using the face for a wide variety of expressions, including concern, disappointment and worry, depending on the attached caption.
Some viral examples include a meme using the face to express a sort of sad disappointment when your mom tells you she threw out your crypto wallet password, and a meme captioned, "When you show bro a picture of your girlfriend and he says 'as long as you are happy bro,'" joking that your "bro" thinks your girlfriend is ugly.
