This virus is said to force your phone screen to zoom in, invert the colors and, perhaps worst of all, cause a repeated sound effect of a cow mooing to play through the speakers. But is it just a prank?

What Is The 'Moo Virus' Phone Prank?

The Moo Virus is not actually a virus at all. It's actually a prank that involves sending the victim a link, usually to an app called "High School Fights."

When they install the app, their phone screens instead zoom, the volume rises and a repeated "moo" sound effect plays through the speakers.

The prank is meant to make it seem like your phone has a virus, but in reality, it can be simply deactivated if you know how to do it.

It's unconfirmed who started the prank, but the earliest notable example was posted by TikToker @callummcmurdoo on June 10th, 2026.

In the video, the TikTok user plays the prank on their mother, who is very confused about how to deactivate the application.

How Do You Fix The 'Moo Virus?'

As the Moo Virus prank spread in June and July 2026, victims became increasingly confused and desperate to fix their phones. This even resulted in posts to the Apple forum about how to fix the phone.

Fixing your phone from the Moo Virus is not all that difficult, and there are many tutorial videos now available on how to do it.

Essentially, it involves navigating on your zoomed-in phone screen to the installed Moo Virus app (usually called "High School Fights") and deleting it.

Then, according to an Apple forum post, you may need to navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Zoom and turn the zoom off, then navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, and turn off Smart Invert or Classic Invert, if your colors have been inverted.
