The 2026 Green Lantern TV show Lanterns is having a big moment on X / Twitter with its first big meme trend, the "Thoughts On Lanterns" meme.

This meme may be about Lanterns at its core, but the edits it's inspiring are about anything but Lanterns, including everything from cartoons to drama shows and beyond.

So, what is the "Thoughts About Lanterns" meme exactly, and where did it come from? Here's what you need to know.

What Is The 'Thoughts On Lanterns' Meme?

At the beginning of September 2026, a Twitter post was made asking for opinions on the TV show Lanterns. Lanterns is a 2026 TV series based on the superhero The Green Lantern.

The post featured an image of the show's protagonists walking down a road. The post was then parodied by X user @jadeladeljadel, who posted the same image of the protagonists, but edited to have badly drawn-on clothes.

The post subsequently went viral, inspiring a meme trend as more and more users adapted it to different franchises.

How Is 'Thoughts On Lanterns' Used In Memes?

The "Thoughts On Lanterns" meme is all about parodying the original post that asks for thoughts on the TV show Lanterns.

It involves editing the image of the two protagonists walking forward to make them look like other popular characters, and altering the caption "Thoughts on Lanterns" to replace "Lanterns" with another franchise.

Since going viral, the trend has inspired memes based on series like SpongeBob SquarePants, the video game Cuphead, the show Breaking Bad and many more.
