TikTok has become home to countless brainrot formats built around short clips that can be repeatedly remixed and edited into new contexts.

The "Hey, Can I Have This?" meme is one such format, centering on a clip of Ted from the TV series sitting in a blue baby swing and asking, "Hey, can I have this?"

The meme began circulating widely in late August 2026, with users using the video alongside exaggerated audio edits and absurd visual contexts. The clip became a plug-and-play audio for absurdist edits and brainrot remixes, quickly becoming one of the platform's dominant reaction formats heading into September, with its reusable CapCut template helping the format spread across TikTok.

So, why this clip in particular, and how are people using it as a meme online? Let's find out.

Where Does The 'Hey, Can I Have This?' Meme Come From?

The clip originates from the Ted television series on Peacock, a prequel to the Ted films starring Seth MacFarlane as the voice of the anthropomorphic teddy bear named Ted. The scene takes place at the Bennett family home, where Ted is shown bouncing in a blue baby swing harness.

The line appears in the second season, including the sixth episode, "Roe v. Weed," when Ted says, "Hey, can I have this?" while sitting in the swing.

The combination of Ted's appearance, the baby swing, and the straightforward request eventually gave TikTok users a short clip that could easily be removed from its original context and reused in memes.
