Khaby Lame Mechanism memes are everywhere, which mostly joke about an unlucky person's soul being sucked into the device to live for eternity doing the signature Khaby Lame shrug.
Although the original video was uploaded to YouTube a few years ago, the evil android is back in the internet spotlight right now.
But why? Where did the "Khaby Lame Mechanism" memes come from, and where's the original video? Let's explain.
What Is The Original 'Khaby Lame Mechanism' Video?
The terrifying video of Khaby Lame in mechanical form was created by a Korean YouTuber named ATMUMAN. It's simply titled "Making Khaby Lame Robot," and it was shared back on August 27th, 2021.
The video is a little over nine minutes long, and it shows the YouTuber assembling the machine from scratch. Its main mechanism is a chain drive that rotates the influencer's arms clockwise, making them slap down on the table.
At the video's end, multiple angles of the machine in motion are shown. It's the clip that has been most used in memes since.
Where Did The 'Khaby Lame Mechanism' Memes Come From?
A Redditor named mohiemen on the appropriately titled "/r/s----yrobots" subreddit was the first to reshare the "Khaby Lame Robot" video in 2021. Their post has received over 10,000 upvotes since then, marking the first viral spread of the mechanism's mind virus.
It was reposted across several subreddits in the following years, eventually landing on TikTok in 2024, where an edited version of it was posted that added the song "Yonkers" by Tyler, The Creator. A user named @choepotato was the first to share the low-quality meme, but it's unclear if they made it themself.

How Is The 'Khaby Lame Mechanism' Being Used On TikTok?
In recent months, the "Khaby Lame Mechanism" memes all roughly follow the same premise. Basically, the meme's subject makes a grave mistake or commits a sin. As punishment, their soul is banished to live in the Khaby Lame Mechanism's body for eternity.
The joke was seemingly coined by a TikToker named @boingusclickin at the start of September 2025. They wrote, "When you see the frog that turns you into the Khaby Lame Mechanism," in the video's caption, showing a man screaming when he discovers the creature (a frog) in his shirt.
It doesn't make much sense, especially to an outsider (someone who's not chronically online), but for the in-group that's entranced by the original clip, it seems to be highly relatable.
Other meme creators have since run with the idea by posing increasingly absurd scenarios that end in the horrifying transformation.
