The whole thing started on April 1st, 2026, when TikToker @heartzz.kyra posted a video sharing images that prove that women are into more than just looks when it comes to a man.
In the video, which gained a massive 38 million views in under a week, images of niche characters and subjects that women purportedly find attractive flash across the screen. One of these is the math equation "7×7=49."
This confused a lot of viewers, who flocked to the comments to complain about now having to compete for attention with a math equation. Soon enough, the idea that the equation is hot spread outside of the video, inspiring memes across the internet.
While the uploader gave no solid reason as to why the equation is attractive, it's been hypothesized that it has something to do with synesthesia, a neurological trait where certain senses blend, forcing the brain to associate things like smell or color with unrelated subjects.
Examples of synesthesia include associating certain colors with songs and tastes with words. However, in the context of the 7×7=49 equation, this is just a theory.

The viral 7×7 video inspired a wave of memes about the equation's perceived attractiveness, largely on TikTok, but also on sites like X / Twitter and Instagram.
