A time-travelling skeleton is getting ragebaited by Ancient Greek philosopher Socrates in a viral AI video trend on TikTok.

The Socrates Skeleton memes started over on Instagram Reels but have gained a new life on TikTok lately as users paint the philosopher as one of the most annoying men to ever exist.

But where did these Socrates memes come from, and what makes Socrates such a good ragebaiter? Here's what you need to know about the Socrates meme.

What Is The 'Socrates' Skeleton Meme?

In mid-February 2026, Instagram Reels user mr_datavisuals posted a "what if" scenario video asking the question, "What if you spent one week in ancient Greece?"

The video uses a skeleton to represent the viewer and shows them learning the ups and downs of life in Ancient Greece, largely showcasing how much more pleasant modern-day living is.

At one point, the skeleton encounters Socrates while attending a philosophy debate. Socrates asks the skeleton what the meaning of justice is, and he just says, "I don't know, bro."

This is the earliest known video to use the format, and it went viral with over 1.6 million views in a month, later kicking off the trend.

How Is 'Socrates' Used In Memes?

TikTokers took the format of the mr_datavisuals video and started riffing on it in early March 2026. These videos similarly feature a skeleton who represents the viewer walking through various historical time periods to learn about their more annoying aspects.

Each of these videos focuses on a funny encounter with Socrates, where the skeleton encounters him and gets ragebaited by an annoying philosophical question.

In the videos, Socrates is unable to help himself from applying philosophy to everything. This is seen as annoying and "ragebait-y" by the skeleton, who just wants to get rid of him.

A lot of the videos also feature Socrates twerking, which is often described as "throwing yams," just to add another layer of ragebait to the meme.
