The fandom for the animated series Invincible has been pumping out tons of memes in 2026, but one of the latest memes actually originates from the comics.

This meme is known as the "Thragg and Viltrumites" redraw meme, and it's got artists tracing over and recreating the cover of an Invincible comic collection and replacing Thragg and the gang with other characters.

So, where exactly does this image come from, and why is everyone redrawing it? Here's what we know.

What Is The 'Thragg And Viltrumites' Redraw Meme?

The image of Thragg holding the skull of the former Emperor Argall and posing with the Viltrumites comes from Invincible: The Ultimate Collection: Volume 7. This hardcover collection of Invincible comics was released in 2012.

The cover itself was drawn by Invincible comic book artist Ryan Ottley and colored by John Rauch. Ottley posted it to his DeviantArt page in 2014.

Then, in mid-April 2026, TikToker @r.ai.ndom posted a video that gained over one million views, where they get various AI programs to redraw the images. That same day, Redditor Impossible_Issue9195 redrew the image by hand to reference Dragon Ball Z, marking the start of the trend.

How Is 'Thragg And Viltrumites' Used In Memes?

As a meme, the Thragg and Viltrumites panel has been going viral on sites including X, TikTok and Reddit as a redraw format. While there's no specific reason why people chose this image, some say that Thragg is "aura farming" in the drawing, meaning it's simply a cool image to redraw.

Redraw memes are all about either tracing over or otherwise redrawing an image, but replacing elements of the image to change the context. In this case, Thragg and the Viltrumites are being replaced with popular characters from other fandoms.

The meme really took off in late April and early May 2026, inspiring variants based on everything from Adventure Time to Family Guy and much, much more.
