Who Is 'Diamond Gym Unc' And What Is The 'El Wiro' Meme?
"Diamond Gym Unc" is a nickname given to the owner of the iconic Diamond Gym in New Jersey. Diamond Gym is a weightlifting gym that's been around since the '70s and has been responsible for training a lot of very successful weightlifters.
Since 2006, the gym has been owned by Dwayne McDaniel, a successful weightlifter in his own right who is known for putting members of the gym through brutal training regimens and having very little tolerance for laziness.
While the term "unc" can sometimes be used as an insult, McDaniel gets the nickname from the experience and respect he's earned while running the gym. Diamond Gym Unc is highly respected online, and clips of him started going more and more viral throughout 2025.

In December 2025, a funny clip of Diamond Gym Unc getting scared of a microphone wire went particularly viral on TikTok and Instagram Reels, to the tune of millions of views.
In the clip, uploaded by the official Diamond Gym social media pages, Unc notices a microphone wire on someone and gets concerned about it. Unc is worried that the wire will get caught in a machine and hurt someone.
He turns to someone else at the gym, whom he refers to as "Pop," and says, "El wiro," to point out the issue. "El wiro" is an attempt at saying "the wire" in Spanish. Now, this clip has become a big brainrot meme on Reels and TikTok.
