Videos keep going viral on TikTok about the mysterious reason that girls put a pink screen on their TVs and computers during FaceTime calls.

The memes suggest that only women will understand the reason for putting on a pink screen when they get the "wanna call" text, leaving a lot of men, and even a lot of women, out of the loop.

So, why do girls like to put pink screens on during FaceTime and video calls? Here's what you need to know.

Why Do Girls Put On Pink Screens For FaceTime Calls?

Pink screen videos have been popping up on YouTube since as early as 2016, with one of the most viral examples boasting over 10 million views.

However, the theory about putting a pink screen on during FaceTime calls didn't go viral online until 2023, when TikToker @omg.cari posted a video bathed in pink light, captioned, "Ladies put on a pink screen before you FaceTime him. It makes everything look better."

The video gained nearly a million views in two years and explains exactly why girls seem to use pink screens on FaceTime calls and when recording videos.

Simply put, some girls believe that the pink light from the TV and the way it lights up a dark room, like a bedroom, makes them look more attractive.

How Is The 'Pink Screen' Theory Used In Memes?

The most common memes about the pink screen theory are forms of engagement bait. These memes allude to a mysterious, unexplained reason that girls use pink screens, sometimes not even mentioning FaceTime at all.

This is simply meant to encourage comments asking for an explanation and increase the time spent on the video.

Some versions of the meme explicitly mention FaceTime and show girls getting messages reading "wanna call," followed by them searching "pink screen" on YouTube. Seemingly, YouTube is the most common method for getting that pink screen lighting.
