When we are thinking about architecture, we tend to think about buildings that surround us as something permanent and unlikely to change during our lifetimes. However, just like everything else, buildings do come and go, and even those that have survived hundreds of years will likely one day be torn down for one reason or another. Fires and other disasters, the need for new infrastructure or simply old age and neglect — there are many reasons why old buildings that were once landmarks of their area get demolished. Some have a very special history, and it can be very sad to see them go.

And while the budlings we have gathered in this collection can no longer be found where they once stood, memories remain. Their beautiful halls and exteriors are preserved through photographs, and while you can no longer visit these buildings of the past, we today can still glance at these architectural marvels, many of which were still around just decades ago.
