The online community received some bad news in 2024. The beloved Shiba Inu dog behind the Doge meme, Kabosu, is no longer with us.

Kabosu posed for the original photo many years ago, and while living out her life in Japan, she was unaware that she'd become one of the most famous memes of all time.

There is good news, though — Kabosu lived a long, happy life, passing at the age of 18 and a half, which is pretty impressive for a dog. According to her owner, Atsuko Sato, she was petting Kabosu when she peacefully passed away.

While it's sad to hear Kabosu is gone, it's good to know that she's going to be memorialized online forever in the form of memes. Doge memes have developed an incredibly large fanbase online, and they've even gone on to inspire bizarre trends like Dogecoin and the Dogelore extended universe.

It's pretty incredible how long Doge memes have lived on, and undoubtedly, they will continue to do so, even when Kabosu is gone.
