Architecture is not something we often consider transient: as kids, we thought of man-made structure around us as something permanent, unlikely to disappear or change drastically in our lifetime. As we grow up we realize that it is anything but, and just like everything else we humans put on this Earth, buildings too get old and crumble, or get torn down at our whim.

While change is often good, it can still be sad to see beautiful buildings that our parents and their parents got to visit and enjoy get destroyed and replaced with something less remarkable. Their memory lives on, however, and you can still behold their magnificent sights through paintings, photographs and videos. If you're feeling nostalgic for beautiful places that no longer are, look no further than these mementos of times not so long ago.
