Getting roasted online is incredibly easy, especially if you're famous on the internet. Fame is a double-edged sword, and part of the consequences of having all eyes on you is that it's very easy to get called out when you mess up. Whether it's a controversial opinion or a not-so-smart old tweet of yours, the internet definitely does not forgive or forget. Once you spend a long enough time online, you build a sort of tolerance to trolls and rage-bait, but for people who aren't as internet-savvy, it can be a really big blow to their egos to get blasted by strangers online.

Reddit's /r/murderedbywords compiles a variety of examples of exactly that, multitudes of examples of people eating their words and getting ripped apart by others. When looking from an outside perspective, it's hilarious, but you'd hate to be in the same sort of position that these people are in, so pray that you're never dumb enough to leave silly posts online.
