Copyright infringement is a big no-no for any business that values its reputation and plans to stick around for decades. However, if your only goal is to make a quick buck and skedaddle before anyone gets wind of your misdeeds, suddenly restrictions and limitations that tie down any self-respecting business are gone — at the risk of massive fines and even prison time, of course.

Still, corporations often don't even bother pursuing small fish trying to profit off their characters, since legal expenses can end up costing more than whatever profit they're losing from a dozen or even a hundred knock-offs sold. And that is why knock-offs and bootlegs continue to exist, and we'll continue laughing at how stupid many of them look.
