For some people, lying is like a hobby. Some people treat lying and making up stories like a whole sport. In general, it's best not to lie about things, but if you are going to, you might as well make it a good lie. What's more embarrassing than lying as a whole is telling a bad lie and being called out for it just because of how bad it is. It's hard to say exactly why some people do this, maybe it's to make themselves look a certain way, maybe it's to push an agenda, or maybe it's just for attention.

Whatever the reason, seeing these clearly fake stories is both entertaining and really cringeworthy. To see what people are lying about these days, Reddit's /r/thathappened features thousands of stories that definitely did not happen. It gets pretty bad over there. Here are just 23 of those fake and embarrassing stories that absolutely no one believes actually happened.
