Memes are generally funny because they make sense — perhaps they're inside jokes referencing a piece of pop culture, or just a funny bit of relatable humor that almost anyone could enjoy.

Other times, memes are incomprehensible image macros blasting a flood of unconnected information, a meshing of words and images so detached from rational thought that one concludes they are windows into the unknown, like a Lovecraftian horror designed to turn their viewers towards madness.
