26 Moments From Job Searching That Are Really Annoying

Once upon a time, getting a job meant printing out a resumé a dozen times, driving around town, and handing it to businesses. These days, getting a job is done almost exclusively online, like everything else. Although searching for and applying for jobs online is seemingly more efficient and simple… it's really annoying. It's honestly not even that efficient because of how difficult jobs make it.

Applying online not only means submitting a resumé, but it also means answering one hundred additional questions, filming a video, and writing a personalized letter to every company just to apply. Making it past that point is even worse. Then comes the hours of interviews, cryptic salary discussions, and the revealing of so many red flags. It just isn't easy to get a job anymore. Those who have a job might want to keep it for a while for this reason. Here are 26 annoying things Reddit users have experienced while searching for a job lately.

So annoying

Put the salary in the job description. No one should have to take time off work to find out the job they are interviewing for pays significantly less than the one they already have. 11:20 PM - Aug 1, 2024 32 Retweets 9 Quote Tweets 348 Likes

Seriously?

Suggested William Carter • 3rd+ "Moving Creativity" - Connecting... 5d. + Follow I often see messages like "Can you share the salary range?" as a first response when I reach out to talented individuals about new opportunities. While I understand salary is important, leading with that question can actually do more harm than good in a job search. Here's why: It puts the focus on the wrong priority - Salary is just one part of the package. Company culture, growth potential, work-life balance, and the role's impact can matter just as much— sometimes more! By asking about salary first, you risk overlooking crucial aspects that could make the role a perfect long-term fit. It can come across as transactional - When recruiters or hiring managers feel the first priority is financial, it can make the conversation feel more like a negotiation rather than a genuine discussion about career growth. First impressions matter, and being curious about the full scope of the role helps establish a more professional tone. You might limit your opportunities - If salary is your only filter, you could miss roles that offer incredible growth potential, additional perks, or pathways to leadership positions. A job offer is much more than just a number! So, next time a recruiter reaches out, I encourage you to start the conversation by exploring the responsibilities, challenges, and opportunities in the role. The financials can be discussed once you have a fuller picture. Let's focus on value, not just salary! #CareerAdvice #JobSearch Tips #RecruitmentInsights William Carter "Moving Creativity" - Connecting Architecture and Interior Design talent with amazing opportunities within the Built Environment across the globe. That's wild

Mike C. 3rd+ CEO @ Grow Sciences • 11mo Edited . + Follow Am I insensitive to the world if I think people should pay a small fee ($20?) to apply for a job, as a means to prevent an overwhelming quantity of under qualified or mismatched submissions? Some additional context via an EDIT: This is a thought exercise, not a practice or a consideration. The fee will guarantee an in person interview, but not the job. The fee could be $1, and is not a means for generating income for the company. Final edit, and comments closed: To those who took a moment to contemplate the question, and answer productively and professionally, thanks. Exchange ideas, avoid the vitriol. Joseph Jewell • 2nd + Follow Recruiter that Codes 5d. Pro tip: Thank you notes are a thing of the past. You can't send a thank you note and expect it to change the outcome of an interview. If you want to set yourself apart in this market, you have to do more than that. If you want to truly stand out, truly be unforgettable... send a ransom note. Make sure it's hand written(by the person you have temporarily acquired possession of) and have it delivered via certified mail, requiring a signature. Boom, immediate feedback. Thinking isn't allowed

પ + Follow Senior Consultant (Azure) 23h-> Just done interviewing a few candidates for a certain role. Sharing 2 tips for job seekers based on the experience today: 1. Don't take too long to respond - In this era of online Interviews we know that a good number of candidates cheat in various ways, one being, having someone with them to help with the answers. If you take too long to respond even if you are right, it makes the interviewer suspicious, so avoid it. Occasionally pausing for few seconds, sometimes is fine, but ensure you don't do this for the majority of the time. 2. Look directly in the camera: I had a habit of looking up or down while thinking and answering during interviews, if you also have similar habit, change it. Look directly in the camera. You might just be thinking by looking to your left or down or up, but it might make the interviewer suspicious that you are looking at some other screen or notes, so avoid that as well. Again, occasionally looking here and there for few seconds is fine, don't do it for longer periods of time. 10
