It might be difficult to remember now, but Tumblr was once one of the weirdest places on the internet.

While this meant it often trended in cringe directions, it also allowed for some of the most surreal and creative memes to flourish (think when the site went all in on pretending clowns were domesticated animals).

Of course, a series of controversial censorship decisions drove much of the site away and killed Tumblr's value toward the end of the 2010s, which is certainly a shame today, when many online are begging for a decent alternative to Twitter / X.

Despite the site's perceived exodus, a cohort of posters is keeping the site running, producing some of the wittiest text posts and funniest content.

Thanks to sites like Reddit's "Curated Tumblr," these posts can get the audience they deserve, showcasing that Tumblr culture is alive and well, even if much of the site has left it.
