The United States is home to a lot of people, and some of them are often grouped into a particular "aesthetic" based on stereotypes. For instance, those who live in the rural South can sometimes be called rednecks, particularly if they keep to themselves (except when voicing political opinions), have a large outdoor-only German Shepherd dog, and prefer to DIY their truck repairs in the cheapest ways possible. Some people prefer to this last part as "redneck engineering."
Redneck engineering differs from DIY fails because the people behind them were absolutely aware that these were terrible ideas, but they chose to do them anyway rather than call a repairman or go to the store, because that would be admitting defeat.
