Video games and gaming as a whole have been around for some time now. The first gaming console was released in the '70s, but gaming took off in the 90s especially. Since then, gaming has evolved in ways that were unimaginable in the past. The systems and consoles are so advanced, the graphics are picture-perfect, people can play together while being millions of miles apart, and even virtual reality is coming into the mix. It's pretty amazing to see how far things have come.

It's even cooler, though, to look back and remember how things began. Many adults remember opening up their first system on Christmas day. Many people have fond memories of the classic games they spent hours playing as kids; revisiting these things is pretty heartwarming.

Take a look back on the true roots of gaming as the world knows it today. Here are 25 nostalgic images that perfectly showcase what gaming was like just a few decades ago.
