Did Hasan Piker Use A Shock Collar On His Dog 'Kaya' During A Stream? The Viral Twitch Controversy And Memes Explained

Prominent political Twitch streamer Hasan Piker (HasanAbi) is going through another round of controversy over allegations that he used a shock collar on his dog during a recent stream.
The clip is going viral all over Reddit and X / Twitter and has inspired a lot of backlash towards Piker, who is being accused of abusing his dog by improperly using the alleged device. Meanwhile, his defenders claim that the dog's yelp is being taken out of context and there's no shock collar at all.
So, did Hasan Piker actually use a shock collar on his dog, and how is social media reacting to the accusations? Here's what we know.

What Is The 'Hasan Piker Shock Collar' Controversy?
The controversy started on October 7th, 2025, during one of Hasan Piker's livestreams on Twitch. For those who don't know, Piker is a leftist political streamer and one of the top streamers on the site. He is known to regularly stream with his dog Kaya in the background, who has an elevated bed in the corner of his streaming room.
During the October 7th stream, Piker was interrupted from talking politics when Kaya took a few steps off her bed.
Pikers gets frustrated and tells her to go back to her bed. As she is climbing onto the bed, Piker appears to reach to the left of his computer, and Kaya yelps before settling back down. Piker looks at her for a while, then calls her a "baby" and says that she's spoiled because his mom let her roam the house while he was away.

The clip was posted to the /r/LivestreamFail subreddit shortly after the alleged incident took place, getting over 15,000 upvotes and a lot of comments in less than 24 hours.
From there, it was posted on X, where it continued to go viral. Many people shared it with the claim that, when Piker seemed to reach over to the left, he allegedly activated Kaya's shock collar to keep her from leaving the view of the stream or to keep her on the bed.
Piker responded to this claim during the same stream, saying that Kaya actually "clipped herself" on the bed and she was not shocked. A prominent theory is that Kaya got her dewclaw stuck on the bed while jumping up onto it.
Piker's detractors have since made posts investigating the collar and claiming it looks like a shock collar due to the presence of a blinking green light, but Piker's defenders claim it's an AirTag tracking collar.
While there are a lot of theories floating around online, nothing has been proven regarding whether or not Piker used a shock collar on Kaya, though this hasn't stopped the rumor mill from wildly spinning.

A day after the incident, Piker got on stream and explained that Kaya gets a lot of exercise in the mornings, which is why she sleeps so much throughout streams. He also claimed that he doesn't use a shock collar, but a vibrating collar with an AirTag on it. He says he doesn't know why she yelped, but assumed she tripped or got her dewclaw caught and apologizes for not being more attentive to her yelp.

Piker claims that he used the collar on Kaya for stepping off the bed to stop her from laying on the floor, which is bad for a dog's joints. A message was also pinned to his stream explaining that Kaya wears a vibrating collar, not a shock collar. Piker later showed off the collar she was allegedly wearing during the stream.

Hasan shows off the Kaya collar, says it’s for vibration“This is one that they saw..it has the capacity to vibrate and that’s it..are you happy..it also has a flashlight component and tracker..this doesn’t work in the way you think it does”pic.twitter.com/zWob8X0eNj

Later on during the same stream, when asked what he was reaching for if not a "shock button," Piker said he was merely reaching for a can of Zyns, holding up a pack and saying, "What do you think?"
How Is Social Media Reacting To The 'Hasan Piker Shock Collar' Allegations?
Hasan Piker is a controversial figure online who has been the subject of drama many times. This has made the alleged shock collar clip very divisive, as many of Piker's critics rush to accuse him of abusing his dog while his defenders rush to his defense.
On one hand, Piker's critics are claiming he inhumanely used a shock collar and are also resurfacing old clips that look to support the narrative that he is abusive towards his dog.
On the other hand, Piker's defenders are sharing claims that Kaya got her dewclaw caught on the bed and that the collar is an AirTag collar, not a shock collar.
In retaliation, Piker's critics are asking for some proof and wondering why Piker didn't show that this was the case during his stream.
Meanwhile, people on both sides of the aisle are making memes about Piker shocking his dog in cartoonishly evil ways. These include photoshops of Piker summoning lightning bolts to shock Kaya, an edit of Piker as the lightning-wielding Mortal Kombat character Raiden and a lot of reaction image memes using pop culture references to represent Kaya and Hasan Piker.
