What Is The 'Mermaid Eating Parties' Conspiracy Theory?
The "mermaid eating party" conspiracy theory started on March 4th, 2025, when TikToker @jlee2.07 posted the first of many videos recounting a story that someone allegedly told her about the elite eating mermaids.
The story surrounds an ex-con, Landon, who is unable to get a job and decides to go work on a fishing boat with his cousin. Landon is asked to sign an NDA when he gets on the boat and finds a room of large fish tanks, which he's told are for the most high-paying catches. He soon discovers that the tanks are for mermaids after the crew catches one of the creatures on a stormy night.
Allegedly, the crew took the mermaid to a warehouse that was set up like a restaurant. A group of purportedly elite people ate the mermaid for an unspecified reason.
The video gained hundreds of thousands of views and was followed by several more videos elaborating on the allegations, including a story about the crew's second catch, a mermaid who could regenerate limbs.

How Is Social Media Reacting To 'Mermaid Eating Parties?'
The TikToker's videos spread across TikTok over the next few days and caught the eyes of other creators, who posted videos recounting the tale. One TikToker, @tiffsghosttalk, soon posted a video that went on to gain over 1.7 million views telling the story of someone who allegedly attended a mermaid eating party.
This man supposedly emailed the TikToker and told her that he was invited to a mysterious, exclusive Hollywood party one night. When he arrived at the party, which had several high-level people in attendance, he had to sign an NDA.
At dinner, the chef brought out a big silver tray which was revealed to be a mermaid. Uncomfortable with this, the man purportedly got up and left.

Many others have retold the story on TikTok, with many seemingly falling for the theory hook, line and sinker. Others, specifically commenters, appear to be more skeptical and are demanding further proof, whether it be a first-hand account, a photo or a video.
While this might seem apparent, there has so far been no solid proof that the conspiracy theory is true.
Mermaids are widely believed to be nothing but mythological creatures, and the idea that the elite is secretly eating them is wildly speculative. So, if you hear stories about the elite eating mermaids, you might want to take them with a grain of salt.
