Does Twitch Streamer Ninja Really Have Cancer? Ninja's Melanoma Diagnosis And Announcement Explained

Famous Fortnite and Twitch streamer Ninja has just delivered some upsetting news that's quickly gone massively viral around the internet.

Yes, the rumors are true — Ninja has been diagnosed with skin cancer. But what's the story behind the diagnosis, and is Ninja being treated? Here's everything you need to know from what's been said so far.

How Was Ninja Diagnosed With Skin Cancer?

On March 26th, 2024, Ninja posted a tweet announcing his diagnosis. He had a mole on his foot removed during a routine annual skin checkup, and after the mole was examined, it turned out to be cancerous. More specifically, it turned out to be melanoma, the most severe, fast-growing form of skin cancer.

Ninja @Ninja Subscribe Alright I'm still in a bit of shock but want to keep you all updated. A few weeks ago I went in to a dermatologist for an annual skin/mole check that Jess proactively scheduled for me. There was a mole on the bottom of my foot that they wanted to remove just to be careful. It came back as melanoma, but they are optimistic that we caught it in the early stages. I had another dark spot appear near it, so today they biopsied that and removed a larger area around the melanoma with the hopes that under the microscope they will see clear non-melanoma edges and we will know we got it. I'm grateful to have hope in finding this early, but please take this as a PSA to get skin checkups. 5:44 PM Mar 26, 2024 4.5M Views 2.1K 2.6K 60K 1.3K <]

Ninja's wife Jessica had set up the appointment for him after deciding they would both do annual skin cancer screenings. She explained in a quote tweet that if they hadn't moved to Florida, it's likely she wouldn't have set up the checkups, and the cancer wouldn't have been found, particularly because the type of cancer was not related to sun exposure.

Jessica Blevins @JessicaBlevins Crazy butterfly effect moment-I probably wouldn't have started scheduling annual skin checkups yet if we didn't move to Florida. Foot melanoma is not sun-related, so it would have been there anyways and we might not have found it. Thank God Ninja @Ninja 23h Alright I'm still in a bit of shock but want to keep you all updated. On TikTok, people are reacting similarly, posting videos about their concerns and surprise. While most support has been very genuine, people are also eager to compare his cancer diagnosis to his previous battle with the life-altering disease ligma, which does not exist.

Will Ninja Be Okay?

The good news is that, after some time, Ninja will probably be ok despite this being a serious health scare. Thanks to his annual skin checkup, his cancer was thankfully caught early. While Melanoma can be fast-spreading and very dangerous, he is already undergoing treatment due to the extraction of additional skin in the surrounding site.

This skin will be tested for melanoma or other forms of skin cancer; if the test comes back negative, it's likely the mole was the only source of cancer on his body, and he's already been properly treated. If the test comes back positive for cancer, it'll be a more difficult road to recovery.

Until then, we'll all just have to wait for Ninja himself to release more details and updates.
