What Happened To Toadsworth?

Super Mario fans have been wondering what happened to Toadsworth for years now, but the discourse reared its head again this week with the release of Super Mario Sunshine on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Toadsworth is a minor character in the Super Mario video game series who first appeared in the 2002 game Super Mario Sunshine. He's an elderly Toad with a big mustache and a cane who works for Princess Peach.

Since then, Toadsworth has been most notable for his appearances in the Mario & Luigi RPG and Paper Mario games. Then, in 2012 and without any warning, he made his last appearance in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.

Since then, Toadsworth has been absent from any new Super Mario games, despite being a beloved character. The internet really started to take notice of this in 2016, when discussions about the fate of Toadsworth picked up.

Then, at the end of July 2026, Nintendo released a redesign of a piece of Mario Sunshine key art that notably omits Toadsworth. This choice reignited discussions and memes about Toadsworth's disappearance.

Some wondered if he died. Others hypothesized that his absence was due to the so-called "Mario Mandate," which restricts original Toad designs.

Shakira On the Computer

Colombian pop artist Shakira is going viral after recreating an old photograph of herself typing on a computer, which became a popular meme among Spanish internet users back in 2018.

The meme is based around a photograph of Shakira taken for the Colombian newspaper El Heraldo back in 1997. The photo shows her smiling at the camera while typing on a powered-off computer.

In January 2018, this meme resurfaced on the internet as the subject of some Spanish-language image macro memes, including memes that offer luck in browsing the internet to anyone who finds the meme.

This meme spread to the English internet later that month thanks to Reddit, with one of the earliest examples being an image macro about playing The Sims. The meme slowly continued to spread online over the following years, inspiring viral examples here and there.

Then, in early August 2026, Shakira posted a recreation of the photograph on Instagram. This time, she's sitting at a printer printing off a photograph of a dog. The post blew up fast, reigniting interest in the meme.

John Politics / President Glen Powell

A photograph of actor Glen Powell dressed in a very presidential way has resurfaced on Twitter and TikTok, and it's earned him the nickname "John Politics."

Back in September 2025, GQ released an interview with actor Glen Powell. The interview features a collection of photographs of Powell dressed to represent stereotypical male fantasies. In the presidential photo, Powell has greased-back hair, an oily face and a big smile.

The photo quickly became a meme after it was posted on X, with one of the first memes reading, "He looks like a fake political candidate in GTA."

Then, in late July 2026, the photograph resurfaced on TikTok as the renewed subject of memes. This new wave of memes includes edits that show Powell mogging other presidents and celebrities with his presidential look.

Most notably, X user @arthurklover_ made a post sharing the image and writing, ""I'm laughing so hard at this photo..,,… who is this and why is he so glossy,,,.. is he john politics..???" This post gained over 250,000 likes in just two days, forever branding Powell as "John Politics."

DanTDM MineCon 2015 Memes

Minecon 2015 is back, but this time, it's YouTuber DanTDM who's in the crosshairs of the internet.

The 2015 Minecraft convention, MineCon 2015, inspired one of the most well-known cringe videos online. The video features a compilation of attendees asking awkward questions to the panel.

At one point, YouTuber DanTDM hosts a live custom mod adventure. This resulted in some similarly cringeworthy and awkward interactions with children in the audience, including a kid who wants to know DanTDM's favorite Minecraft block.

These DanTDM clips have now come back into popularity on TikTok as the subject of brainrot edits. These edits alter the look of the clips in funny and absurd ways, including lots of filters and references to other brainrot memes.

Some of the most popular edits make it look like DanTDM is obliterating his fans with lasers, or overdub his voice to make him say wildly inappropriate things to the children, adding a sinister and darkly funny layer to some classic cringe clips.

Spider-Man Feet Scene

Finally, the internet became obsessed with a scene from the new Marvel movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where the titular character lets his feet float in a tub while speaking with Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova.

The scene came as a surprise to a whole lot of viewers, who were quick to turn it into a meme. Some of the earliest reactions to the scene, which sees Belova call Spider-Man's work "small potato stuff" as opposed to her "big potato" work with the Avengers, simply express shock over the image of Spider-Man, mask on, with his feet up.

It's not exactly what you expect to see when you walk into the theater to see the latest Spider-Man film, causing it to become fodder for jokes.

As the scene spread, it inspired various edits and memes, including elaborate recreations of the scene made with everything from Lego to AI to traditional hand-drawn animation and beyond.
