What Is A 'Polyester Edit'?

So-called "polyester edits" started going viral on TikTok as early as October 2025, before the term was properly coined, and are similar to fancams.

These edits typically focus on a specific character and consist of a rapid-fire compilation of scenes featuring the character in the background, while the character poses in the foreground.

More often than not, the edits feature Marvel characters, with one of the earliest examples focusing on the MCU version of Iron Man.

The term "polyester edit" came about as early as July 16th, 2026, when TikToker @useruxia8ob7j1 posted a video making fun of a popular Iron Man edit.

The user called the video a "100% polyester ahh edit," comparing the perceived quality of the editing style to polyester clothes, which can be made cheaply and mass-produced.

Ever since the term "polyester edit" was coined, TikTokers have been going on a meme rampage, making sure that everyone knows exactly what a polyester edit looks like.

Over the last week, the term has been all over the comment sections of edits made in the style, whether old or new.
