A niche meme from the HermitCraft fandom is spreading thanks to the way it's taking over Wplace.

The meme is known as Eefo, and it's a reference to a member of the prominent Minecraft server and content creation group HermitCraft named Ethoslab.

So, who or what is Eefo, where did it come from, and why is it getting so big on Wplace? Here's what you need to know.

What Is The 'Eefo' Meme?

The Eefo meme originates from a video by YouTuber and HermitCraft member Grian posted on May 27th, 2024. In the video, members of HermitCraft build things in Minecraft and have to guess what they are.

HermitCraft member Skizz then decides to build a representation of fellow member Ethoslab, or Etho, who is represented through an avatar similar to Kakashi from Naruto.

Skizz's version of Etho resembles him in a very simplistic but effective way, including his signature red eye and dark clothing. However, his body is in the shape of an Among Us crewmate in what seems to be a reference to the Amogus meme. Viewers found the build funny and nicknamed him "Eefo," which is also a common nickname for Etho.

How Is 'Eefo' Used In Memes?

The Eefo meme has become very popular in the HermitCraft fandom since May 2024. It has inspired numerous works of fan art, including depictions of Eefos made of wood blocks, clay, plastic and more.

Some fans have also built Eefo in their own Minecraft worlds and in other games, like Terraria.

Eefo memes have mostly stayed relegated to the /r/HermitCraft subreddit and related HermitCraft communities online. That is, until the launch of Wplace, inspiring the meme to leak outside of its home turf to the unsuspecting masses.

Why Is 'Eefo' All Over 'Wplace?'

Wplace is a website inspired by the beloved /r/place subreddit and event. It allows users to make pixel art of anything they want on a map of the world, with a leaderboard tracking which country has the most pixels.

If you're out of the loop, Wplace has gotten very popular this year, especially with gamers.

The online fandoms for games like Deltarune have been taking up lots of real estate on the map, and now, HermitCraft fans are joining together to draw as many Eefos as possible.

There have been many Eefo sightings on Wplace in early August 2025. Some viral examples include a drawing of the Loss meme with Eefo, a copycat of Stonehenge made with Eefo and a massive Eefo that's being built over Newfoundland by a group of Twitter users.
