4chan has been responsible for a lot of trolling campaigns in the past, with some being more innocent than others. Right now, the latest suspected troll going around on the site comes from the cooking board and focuses on a fishy, cheese-like fungi called raleqtambrobrét that purportedly goes well on toast. But is raleqtambrobrét even real? Here's what we know.

What Is 'Raleqtambrobrét' And Is It Real?

Last December, an anonymous user of 4chan's /ck/ board, a forum made to discuss food and cooking, made a post asking what users put on their toast, claiming they're torn between poached and scrambled eggs. Another anon responded, "I normally put raleqtambrobrét on my toast." This inspired another user to ask what raleqtambrobrét is, earning the response, "a fishy cheese-like fungi but with the consistency of rento."

The discussion didn't stop there, as another anon claimed to know raleqtambrobrét, while others claimed they eat it all the time. So, does raleqtambrobrét exist? As far as we know, there is no evidence that raleqtambrobrét is a real type of food. There are no reports of it online before the 4chan post and seemingly no real images of it, making raleqtambrobrét a likely troll.

How Is 'Raleqtambrobrét' Used In Memes?

The 4chan thread about raleqtambrobrét was screenshotted and went viral across social media, including platforms like TikTok and Instagram. It went particularly viral when TikToker @greentextgaming posted a reading of it to over 1.3 million views.

From there, the term has seen increased use on 4chan's /ck/ board, largely in posts where anons claim it's a real food to troll those out-of-the-know. There are fake recipes for preparing raleqtambrobrét, people claiming it's their favorite food and people sharing their nostalgia for the food. Unfortunately, it looks like we'll never get to try raleqtambrobrét for ourselves.
