What Is The 'Children Of The Waning Star' Cult On TikTok? Gigi Jarvis' Crazed Following And The Controversy Explained

A TikToker named Gigi Jarvis (@notgigijarvis) is receiving backlash for starting her own cult on the app, known as the "Children of the Waning Star."
Why is she receiving backlash, though? It's because of some rumors floating around TikTok that the "members" of her cult are participating in rituals, allegedly harming their bodies for their leader.
However, these claims are mostly in reaction to comments that Jarvis is receiving on her viral videos, and it's ultimately unclear how serious her followers are being. In fact, the creation of the Children of the Waning Star TikTok cult, in general, seems to be shrouded in layers of irony.
So, what is the "Children of the Waning Star" cult on TikTok? Who is TikToker Gigi Jarvis, and why is she sparking controversy? Let's explain.

Where Did The 'Children Of The Waning Star' TikTok Cult Come From?
The cult was started by Gigi Jarvis on July 11th, 2025, when she posted a video, simply titled, "Starting a cult day 1 <3."
She said, "I'm starting a cult and want you all to be a part of it."
She then suggested a weird ritual that she wanted to be a part of it, called "Victim of the Week." She explained it as, "Whoever drops the funniest photo in my comment section, I'm going to steal your profile picture and become you for a whole week."
@notgigijarvis plz accept my invite itll be so silly
Her "Victim of the Week" idea didn't pan out, though, because she hasn't changed her profile picture since that fateful video. Instead, she posted days 2, 3, 4 and so on of her "starting a cult" journey.
On July 13th, or "Day 4" according to her timeline, Jarvis responded to a TikTok comment in which someone suggested that her cult be named the "Children of the Waning Star." Jarvis liked the idea and made it the official name of her budding following.

Who Is TikToker Gigi Jarvis, @notgigijarvis?
Gigi Jarvis is a TikTok user who's been posting content on the app since June 2025. She really hasn't been on the internet for long, as far as we know. At least, her TikTok page @notgigijarvis is relatively new.
Outside of TikTok, Jarvis appears to be a model and actress, per her profiles on Backstage and her portfolio on Miles Models. The websites list her home city as Atlanta, Georgia.

What Is The 'Children Of The Waning Star' Controversy?
As Jarvis has been posting her Children Of The Waning Star videos, some internet users have been coming out to criticize her "romanticization of cults," according to a Reddit post about the situation.
"I honestly don’t think this can lead to anything positive," said the Redditor in question in their /r/cults subreddit post. "The romanization of cults is not okay."
Similarly, TikToker @therealliberty_belle posted a video on the topic, in which she claimed that users in Jarvis' comment sections were allegedly admitting to blood-letting for the Children of the Waning Star cult.
The TikToker warned that the trend was becoming "serious" and that it needed to stop.
@therealliberty_belle Any comments trying to defend CWS will be DELETED. Literally stop romanticizing it. Enough. #fyp #mamabelle #cult #scared #girlbye #sos #enough #childrenofthewaningstar #enough #stop #pagan #paganism #witchtok ♬ original sound – Belle
In response, Gigi Jarvis posted a video in which she said that the Children of the Waning Star were not going to be called a "cult" anymore because "no one is actually doing rituals or sacrificing."
Many viewers thought they heard a little sarcasm in her voice, akin to many of her Children of the Waning Star videos, which all seem to be unserious in tone.

What Are Some More 'Children Of The Waning Star' Memes?
As opposed to other so-called "TikTok cults," the Children Of The Waning Star seems to be the most cultish of them all, at least in terms of aesthetics.
This is because most TikTok cults, like the Minion Cult or Alien Cult, among many others, usually just entail changing one's profile picture and display name to match everyone else in the community.
The cults are usually just a way for pages to gain followers, as everyone in the cult, with the same profile picture, is incentivized to follow each other en masse.
But the Children of the Waning Star is different. Just its name alone sets it apart from the others. It has a serious tone to it, which also makes it the most ironic of them all. That's why it's amassing so many memes and reactions right now.
However, not all the reactions are positive. Of course, some feel that the whole ironic cult schtick is insensitive. Others just think it's corny.
But all the flavors of outrage and praise are putting the Children of the Waning Star at the top of the current internet zeitgeist.
