It started because of a TV clips repost page, @gululu_boomm, which shared a strangely edited version of the scene, likely to avoid a copyright strike. Each segment was given a mirroring effect, which alternated between frontside and flipside.

The one-off clip seemingly inspired the "My Mother Ate Fries" memes this month. Creators have been using @gululu_boomm's video and mutating its effects to the Nth degree.

The videos could be described as "brainrot" or "lobotomy," given the nonsensical slew of CapCut filters and effects being "slopped" onto the original cut.

Why Is 'My Mother Ate Fries' A Meme?

It's difficult to say with certainty why this meme is resonating with people. However, the "brainrottification" of American sitcoms on TikTok and Instagram Reels has been a common theme of memes this year.
