The latest dance craze across social media comes to us thanks to the Pokémon Company and an incredible animated video they posted at the end of February. The dance is known as the Pokédance and it's spreading across TikTok, X and YouTube right now. So what is the Pokédance and how is it done? Here's what you need to know.

What Is The 'Pokédance' And How Is It Done?

At the end of February, in celebration of Pokémon Day, The Pokémon Company released an animation across social media where Pokémon trainers dance alongside their Pokémon. In the video, they do an original dance known as the Pokédance to an original song by Yuki Honda, Tsukasa Kikuchi and Nanahira.

The video went viral, especially on TikTok, racking up over 23 million views in a month. Essentially, the dance is done by alternating your arms from left to right while pointing forward, then swaying your hips to the beat. The Pokémon Company even got the K-Pop group ENHYPEN to do the dance for them, helping it go viral on TikTok.

How Is The 'Pokédance' Used In Memes?

Since going viral in late February, the Pokédance has inspired two main trends. The first is a dance trend on TikTok, where users simply do the dance as successfully as possible. The second is animation memes, in which characters from other series' are animated doing the dance.

Both trends proved notably popular across social media throughout March, with the dance trend mostly living on TikTok and the animation memes mostly living on X and YouTube.
