Stardenburdenhardenbart. Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious, it's popular on TikTok and, remarkably for a TikTok meme, has lasted for nearly four years.

Here's what you have to know about this ridiculous word that's become must-know vocabulary on the app.

What Is 'Stardenburdenhardenbart?'

Unlike most extremely long collections of letters that tend to go viral on TikTok, "Stardenburdenhardenbart" is mercifully SFW.

In July of 2020, user g.catt.eng posted a video where they attempt to call a cat in different languages. After the cat ignores English and Korean calls, they call the cat "in German," saying "Stardenburdenhardenbart!" and the cat comes over.

The TikToker concludes "German always works," but there's one problem: "Stardenburdenhardenbart" is not a German word. It's a completely made-up gibberish word said in a German accent that, for whatever reason, appears to make the cat in the video come towards him.

How Did 'Stardenburdenhardenbart' Become A Meme?

While the word itself is made up, the viral video that originated it gave TikTokers a hypothesis to experiment with. Soon, people were calling their cats using the word, and surprisingly, it seemed to work on quite a few cats. However, it's worth noting that many of these videos use the same sound, which may suggest that in these videos, the owners weren't actually "calling" their pets.

It also became a word used among VTubers, oddly enough. One VTuber, einelotta, gained tens of thousands of likes simply by posting a video where she says it over and over.

While there is scant evidence to suggest that calling your cat with the word "Stardenburdenhardenbart" will actually command the cat's attention, if you want to try, rest assured that you're simply saying a gibberish word from TikTok and not, like, a slur or anything.
