The memes most often show a cute animal saying the phrase, commonly written in Papyrus font akin to the genre of Hood Irony memes that have made Papyrus their whole thing. Alternatively, the greeting's written in a copy-and-paste cursive with a red heart emoji like "𝓗𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓸 𝓫𝓻𝓸 ❤️."

The meme seemingly started on Twitter / X when a user named @hongebob posted a strange calculator app meme in September 2023. The X user appears to be a weird, unhinged version of SpongeBob. Going in 2024, SpongeBob's likeness was commonly used in "Hello Bro" memes.

What's The Red Ball Saying 'Hello Bro' Meme?

One of the most famous iterations of the meme shows a red ball saying, "Hello Bro" in a speech bubble. The earliest known upload of the meme was on Twitter / X in November 2023.

The post inspired a slew of reaction images of different colored balls saying variants of "Hello Bro." Nonsensical in nature, the images are funny because of their simple absurdity.

What Is 'Papyrus Irony?'

The "Hello Bro" meme falls under the umbrella of Papyrus irony because many of the iterations use the font Papyrus and the Rio De Janeiro filter.
