Netizens have been doing a challenge and social game on TikTok where the video creator asks their friends to make gunshot sounds to show them what kind of gun they hypothetically tote. How Did The 'What Your Gun Sound Like' Challenge Started?
Some of the earliest videos of the "What your gun sound like?" (also written as "What yo gun sound like?") trend were posted on TikTok in April 2022 by jaylen4pf. Unfortunately, the video has since been deleted, with the most recent example being a video made by TikTok user @mikeiooo on April 8th, 2022. In the video (shown below), the teenager goes around his school asking friends to voice out gunshot sounds for their hypothetical guns.

Why Is The 'What Your Gun Sound Like' Going Viral Again In 2024?
The trend remained fairly popular with high schoolers in 2022 but sparked a new series of viral videos in April 2024, which consisted of the same basis of creating funny noises for the hypothetical guns. For example, on April 17th, 2024, TikToker @jaylenneal5 shared the noises his friends' guns sounded like (seen below, left).
In May 2024 the trend evolved to a more abstract genre, in which TikTok users posted their favorite instrumental sounds as the "gun noises." For instance, on May 13tth, 2024, TikToker @shuuie posted Limbo's "Airplane Mode" instrumentals to represent how her gun sounded. (seen below, right)
