What Is The 'Netflix Documentary' Meme?

The Netflix documentary meme plays off of a commonly noticed trope in documentaries produced and released by Netflix. The trope is that when a pivotal interviewee introduces themselves, there is often a preamble scene in which the interviewee casually prepares for the interview and sits in the chair while talking to the producers.

This was first pointed out by TikToker @borderbandittx on June 16th, 2026, with a comedy video in which he exaggerates these types of scenes.

Then, on June 30th, TikToker @wassupa1ex posted a video playing with and parodying this same idea.

In the video, he sits on a chair in the middle of the sidewalk under the caption, "It's my dream to be introduced in the last episode of a Neftlix doc." The video blew up and subsequently sparked the trend as the concept spread online.
