When Was The Picture Of The Black And Pink Meme Houses First Posted Online?

The black and pink neighboring homes are located on Palisades Beach Road in Santa Monica, California. Known as the "Sherbet Homes," the Zillow listing for the "Barbie" pink house stands at around $6 million.

On September 7th, 2015, Redditor /u/zenaidnog90 posted an image of the Sherbet Homes to /r/pics, saying, "Voldemort and Barbie are neighbors!" The image garnered over 11,000 upvotes in six years and remains one of the oldest known popular memes featuring the houses.


How Did The Barbie And Goth Houses Become A Meme?

More photos of the black and pink meme houses emerged online in subsequent years, with one particular angle becoming the standard image used in memes.

On September 3rd, 2018 Redditor u/lookaroundewe posted a photoshop of the image to /r/pics, making it resemble the Piper Perri Surrounded meme. On April 17th, 2020, Tumblr user webskylar posted a meme using the image to compare Kingdom Hearts' plot to its character design.
