One of the earliest versions of the meme originated from a video of a white dog sitting in front of a fire while someone cooked nearby.
Although the original caption-free clip appears to have been reuploaded to Instagram in December 2025, one of the earliest known captioned versions was posted to TikTok by @jaygupski on January 3rd, 2026.
The TikTok featured the now-iconic caption, "He tryna ignore it 😭," stretched across the bottom of the video with dozens of crying emojis.
Over the following months, screenshots cropped from the video began circulating independently on platforms like Reddit and Tenor, turning the image into a standalone reaction meme.

Unlike some memes, He Tryna Ignore It is pretty basic when it comes to its meaning and usage. No matter what version or image is used in a meme, it's essentially just a way for someone to express how they're trying to stay focused on something and undistracted, or how they're attempting to ignore something they really didn't wish they saw, such as a spoiler.
A separate version of the catchphrase emerged several months later after the initial one in early 2026.
On April 29th, 2026, Instagram user @theunfunniestguyyouknow shared a screenshot of NBA superfan Jimmy Goldstein watching LeBron James during a game.
The image included a comment reading, "He tryna ignore it," implying that LeBron was trying to ignore Goldstein because of his intense stare. The screenshot quickly spread beyond Instagram and became another popular use of the phrase.
As both images spread throughout 2026, He Tryna Ignore It evolved into a versatile reaction caption used whenever someone appeared to be pretending not to notice something awkward, uncomfortable or embarrassing.
The dog reaction image also continued to spread independently throughout mid-2026 as its continued evolving.
