Who Is Lord Miles And Is He Actually Planning To Invade Haiti? The Infamous Brit's Outlandish Idea Explained

Remember the British tourist who went to Afghanistan right in the middle of the 2021 Taliban offensive and posted entertaining updates of his situation on 4chan and Facebook before getting rescued a few days later?
Since his first trip to the country in 2021, Miles "Lord Miles" Routledge made more visits to the Central Asian country, got close with members of the Taliban and even got detained by the Taliban intelligence for several months in 2023, which fueled empty rumors of his untimely death.
Now he's planning something that might overshadow all of this: A full-blown invasion of the troubled nation of Haiti, and some of his followers are convinced that if anyone could be serious about a ludicrous proposal like this, it's Lord Miles.
Learn what the British adventurer has been posting about his planned Haiti invasion and what might come out of all of this in our brief explainer.

Who Is Lord Miles?
Twenty-five-year-old British citizen Miles Routledge, better known as Lord Miles, is a so-called danger tourist — a person who travels to dangerous places that others wouldn't dare set foot in.
In Lord Miles' case, his dangerous place of choice is Afghanistan, which has been under the Taliban's control ever since the United States withdrew its military from the country in 2021.
He first visited the country in mid-August 2021, the exact time Taliban forces took over Afghanistan's capital, Kabul. Despite the U.K. and most of the Western world urging their citizens to immediately leave Afghanistan, Miles stayed in the country, reporting on his precarious situation on 4hcan and even doing Facebook livestreams.

After spending two days in a safe house in the center of Kabul, getting moved to another house later, and finding time to give The Times an interview, on August 17th, two days after the Taliban took over Kabul, Miles was evacuated to Dubai.
But this was only the start. Miles made more trips to Afghanistan and even befriended members of the Taliban, posting about the country and sharing stories from his travels on Twitter / X.
Despite that, on his third visit to the country in February 2023, Lord Miles was apprehended by the Taliban's General Directorate of Intelligence and spent seven full months in their custody.
Miles' prolonged absence from X, where he had amassed a large following, fueled memes about him having been executed by the Taliban, which were ultimately proven baseless when Miles emerged safe and sound in October 2023.

Since his release, Miles has remained active on X, where he's become a de facto far-right influencer, which is not that surprising considering that he, by his own admission, "has
been on 4chan and iFunny since the age of 12 or 13" and has always been outspoken about his right-wing views.
While the heyday of Lord Miles' fame seems to have passed, his recent online activity hints that he might find himself back in the spotlight once again. His next grand adventure … is the invasion of the Caribbean nation of Haiti.
Is Lord Miles Planning An Invasion Of Haiti?
In 2018, the Caribbean state of Haiti entered a political, economic and social crisis initially triggered by a rise in fuel prices and rampant corruption. The crisis escalated in 2021 following an attempted coup d'état and then the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse.
The ongoing crisis has been accompanied by widespread poverty, a massive drop in quality of life in the country, and a massive gang war in the country's capital, Port-au-Prince.
The country has been coming up again and again in online discussions. What went wrong? What can be done?
In April 2025, Lord Miles came up with a unique solution for the latter question: invade the country. To be clear, he's not been advocating for the U.K., the U.S. or even his friends at the Taliban to do it.
No, Lord Miles wants to rally like-minded (and preferably military-trained) individuals on X and other social media, obtain a few million in funding from venture capital and overtake the country with a group of 50ish men, effectively overtaking the Republic of Haiti and establishing a new country in its place.
With rules and laws that would cater to the far-right, of course — Miles made it quite clear in more than just one post he made.

As of May 2025, Lord Miles has been developing his idea for over a month, and with each passing day, it looks more and more like he's actually being serious about it.
After all, among all right-wing influencers Miles has always stood out due to the fact that so far he's put money where his mouth was every single time.

Is Lord Miles Really Going To Invade Haiti?
Still, it's early to tell how serious Lord Miles is being with his posting, and even if he is serious, whether his ambitious, highly illegal and arguably immoral plan could achieve any semblance of success even if all stars align for Mr. Routledge.
So far all we got from the notorious adventurer were a bunch of X posts in which he pinky promised that's he's being "very serious" about going through with his plan, promises to personally take down the Haitian gang leader Barbecue, remarks on putting down a "business plan" for a new nation, and as a cryptic tweet that he "got something insanely big with Haiti agreed."

Lord Miles also promised to open a survey to recruit willing participants for the planned invasion, but hasn't done so just yet.

What Are The Legal Repercussions Of A Paramilitary Invasion Of A Foreign Country?
"But isn't invading foreign countries and overtaking countries highly illegal?" you might ask. Yes, it is, and while the Haitian government might not be in a good shape to enforce punishment on the yet-to-be formed paramilitary group, there are plenty of international laws that would put the invading individuals – which would be considered mercenaries – on trial in the Hague.
Coup d'etat, terrorism, mercenarism, war crimes — the list of charges the individuals who attempt to invade a country would face is long enough for several life sentences. Considering they live through their invasion attempt in the first place.
