On or around February 22nd, 2024, TikTokers began spamming the comment "I need a therian girlfriend" under a variety of videos. In particular, TikToker @wonderaven seems to have started, or at least popularized, the trend when he posted the comment under a video of a therian stretching like a cat. But what exactly is a therian anyway?
A therian is similar in some ways to a furry. Essentially, therians are similar to otherkin in that they spiritually identify as animals and recognize themselves as animals in all ways but physical. Rather than dress in anthropomorphic animal suits like furries, therians will often be seen in more realistic animal masks or outfits, acting like their identifying animal form as closely as possible.
How Is 'I Need a Therian Girlfriend' Used In Memes?
It's unclear why @wonderaven started spamming "I need a therian girlfriend" under videos, although the original comment seems to have been made to express an attraction to the therian TikToker. Some have speculated that Wonderaven started spamming it in an attempt to get attention to his page and his music.
