Why Did Selena Gomez Comment 'Sorry I Didn't Mention Every Person I Know' On TikTok? The Francia Raisa Kidney Donor Drama Explained

A screenshot of a controversial TikTok comment made by pop star and actress Selena Gomez is going viral again, but a lot of people don't know the context.
The screenshot shows Gomez commenting, "Sorry I didn't mention every person I know" under a video that shows her lying next to actress Francia Raisa, her kidney donor, in a hospital bed.
So, why did Selena Gomez leave the comment, what did it mean, and what is the drama between Selena and her kidney donor? Here's what you need to know.

What Is Selena Gomez's 'Sorry I Didn't Mention Every Person I Know' Comment?
Back in the summer of 2017, Selena Gomez got a kidney transplant from fellow actress Francia Raisa. Gomez needed the transplant because of complications relating to her lupus disease.
On November 4th, 2022, Selena Gomez's documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me was released, which is largely about her lupus diagnosis.
A day prior, on November 3rd, Gomez told Rolling Stone that Taylor Swift was her "only friend in the industry," which the E! News Instagram page quoted and posted to their page. Francia Raisa commented, then deleted, "Interesting" under the post, which some took as a slight at Selena Gomez for not shouting her out.
Then, on November 5th, TikToker @stephwithdadeets posted a video about Raisa allegedly unfollowing Gomez after writing and deleting the comment, also claiming that Francia Raisa is not mentioned at all in Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me. The video gained over 4 million views and inspired Gomez to leave a comment, reading, "Sorry I didn't mention every person I know."

What Was The Reaction To Selena Gomez's 'Sorry I Didn't Mention Every Person I Know' Comment?
The comment went viral, inspiring reactions across social media and continuing to inspire reactions for years. Some people took her comment as an honest apology for mentioning Taylor Swift as her "only friend in the industry."
Even TikToker @stephwithdadeets, whose video Selena Gomez left the comment on, responded to it with understanding, reminding viewers that she assumed Gomez was talking about the music industry, not the entertainment industry at large.
However, some of the TikToker's commenters suggested Gomez was being passive-aggressive. The top comment under the video, with over 15,000 likes, reads, "She’s being passive aggressive. She didn’t like your video 😅."
Since then, a screenshot of Selena Gomez's comment has occasionally been going viral on social media, often without the full context.
In June 2025, it was included in an X thread with over 2,300 likes on "Selena Gomez’s history of bullying many women," and in July, it gained over 181,000 likes when X user @HazelAppleyard_ posted it with the caption, "This was brutal."
