Why Has This Absurdly Long From 'Madame Web' Become A Meme? Explaining 'He Was In The Amazon With My Mom When She Was Researching Spiders Right Before She Died'
By now, it's become apparent that Madame Web is being received like Morbius. But despite being pretty widely disliked, it's left people feeling pretty entertained, particularly when it comes to memes.
So, what's the big deal with "He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died," and why is it a meme? Here's everything you need to know.
Where Does The Line Come From?
On November 15th, 2023, the trailer for Madame Web was released. At the 1:45 minute in the trailer, the line is spoken, and it sounds rather comical, in a very unintentional way. Fans of Morbius may remember that it also started with a scientist researching an animal species in the jungle. One would assume that this wordy and overdramatic line is important to the movie, but given its bizarre delivery, it's far more important in memes.
How Is The Line Used In Memes?
First, it was mocked by Twitter / X users, with the earliest example coming shortly after the release of the trailer:
Then, it started to spread in memes the same day, and it's been passed along from site to site ever since. The absurdity and length of the line is being mocked, and it's frequently paired with reaction images to emphasize the line's odd dramaticism.
To make a meme about it, the only thing necessary is a fitting (or ironically overdramatic) image to pair the line with. These memes tend to do well on the site formerly known as Twitter, and are having a bit of a resurgence since the movie was released on February 14th, 2024.
