Why Is 'Cory In The House' DS One Of The Best Reviewed Games On Metacritic? The Viral Review Raid And Memes Explained
Gamers are flocking to Metacritic to leave positive reviews on the Nintendo DS video game Cory In the House, and they've almost got it to the number one spot.
The recent Metacritic review raid is making a lot of meme lovers nostalgic thanks to the That's So Raven spin-off's long-standing status as an ironic meme and fandom, and this isn't the first time its reviews have been inflated.
So, why are people reverse-review-bombing Cory In the House, and what is their end goal? Here's what you need to know.
What Is 'Cory In The House' And Why Is It A Meme?
Cory In the House is a short-lived Disney Channel TV show and spin-off of the more well-known series That's So Raven! It ran for 33 episodes between 2007 and 2008 and saw actor Kyle Massey as Cory, Raven's brother, move to Washington, D.C. after his dad becomes the White House executive chef.
In 2008, a tie-in video game of the same name was released on the Nintendo DS system. The game was only reviewed by two critics according to Metacritic, both giving it a negative score.
After the series ended, Cory In the House became an ironic meme where people hype it up to be much better than it actually is.
One of the biggest memes about the series claims it's an anime series, similar to the "King of the Hill Is Anime" meme. Another involves positively reviewing the DS game to force it up the best-reviewed charts.
Why Is 'Cory In The House' So Highly Reviewed On Metacritic?
In 2013, Cory In the House DS was review-raided (the opposite of a review-bombing campaign) thanks to the efforts of users on 4chan and Reddit. These users banded together to positively review the game on GameFAQs, eventually getting it to the site's top spot for "most wanted FAQs."
Users also focused their efforts on the game's Metacritic page, launching it to a high 9 score, marking "universal acclaim."
Now, in January 2026, people are flooding to the Metacritic page once again to give the game positive reviews.
It's not exactly clear why they started flocking to it again, but a viral Reddit post on the /r/videogames subreddit, pointing out that the game was at the number two spot behind Expedition 33 and just in front of Metal Gear Solid 3, likely helped.
Additionally, some outlets and users have speculated that it is a reactionary event due to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 taking first place on Metacritic less than a year ago, further fueled by recent controversy surrounding the game's AI usage and backlash among some following its numerous "Game of the Year" awards.
The game is now bouncing around in the top five slots of Metacritic's best user-reviewed games of all time, threatening Expedition 33's number one spot and dominating beloved titles like Silent Hill 2, Heroes of Might and Magic III and Chrono Trigger.
