Squirrel Waving Bye In Tornado

A squirrel waving goodbye and getting sucked into a tornado became an unexpectedly emotional meme format this past week everywhere from TikTok to X.

This meme mashes up scenes from two different Superman movies: the 2013 Man of Steel movie and the 2025 James Gunn Superman movie. The 2013 scene sees the character Jonathan wave to Superman, telling him he can't be saved. The 2025 scene sees Superman rescue a squirrel from being crushed by an alien. In July 2025, Jonathan was replaced with the squirrel and started inspiring memes, where the squirrel represents someone saying goodbye.

Now, the meme is back and bigger than ever thanks to an animation where the squirrel waves and then gets sucked into a tornado, adding another tragically funny layer to the meme. The meme is used as an overly dramatic reaction to something unfortunate happening, like realizing you left your AirPod case behind, or making a few mistakes on the first day of your new job.

TikTokers have been transforming into kittens and everything in between with the "Today I'm Gonna Turn Into" trend.

The trend was started at the beginning of August by TikToker @sleepeymimiii. It involves editing together video clips where you crouch lower and lower to the ground as the song "I'm Going To Be a Squashed Cheese Ball Today" by HappyPizzaBread plays, then cutting to footage of your cat or another subject, as if you've turned into that subject.

This cute and wholesome trend hit its peak in the past week or so on both TikTok and Instagram Reels. While some of the most popular examples are all about showing off your adorable kitten, other funny spins on the trend have participants turning into another person. Some people have even made animations that follow the trend, including one where a cat turns into a loaf of bread.

Let's Groove

A fun scene from The Emperor's New Groove sequel, Kronk's New Groove, has the animators of the internet creating their own "Let's Groove" animations.

In the scene, Kronk and his love interest, Ms. Birdwell, dance to the Earth, Wind & Fire song "Let's Groove" while waiting for their bread to bake in the oven. While it first became the subject of a re-animation in 2024, the trend didn't kick into full gear until the end of August, when talented animators started posting their own takes on the scene.

These re-animations replace Kronk and Ms. Birdwell with characters from other popular franchises, including everything from Five Nights at Freddy's to Marvel Rivals and more.

Cat In the Hat Serial Killer Trend

Reports of an apparent serial killer stalking around the U.K. and Ireland in a Cat In the Hat costume shook the internet this past week, and now it's become a trend.

Around mid-August, images that appeared to show a man in a creepy Cat In the Hat costume, inspired by the 2003 Mike Myers film, standing around in the dark started appearing on Snapchat. They quickly spread to Facebook and social media at large, as residents of Ireland worried about their authenticity. The worries got so bad that the police stepped in and investigated, only to discover that the images were AI-generated.

This wasn't the end of the sightings, though. The fears of the Cat In the Hat killer inspired some social media users to keep the hoax going by generating more Cat In the Hat killer images. Others bought Cat In the Hat costumes and took the trend in a more realistic direction by filming skits and taking photos posing as the alleged killer.

It's all very reminiscent of those creepy clown sightings in 2016, only this time, with a whole lot more AI.

Doomsdale

Finally, a very important day for a portion of the internet dedicated to hating on the streamer Low Tier God arrived this week, and it's called "Doomsdale."

Doomsdale happened on August 30th, 2026. That date commemorated the official day that Low Tier God, by his own account, became a failure. Back on August 30th, 2020, Low Tier God said during a stream that if he was still streaming in six years, he would have failed in life. His viewers refused to let that statement go.

They deemed the date of August 30th, 2026 "Doomsdale," a combination of "doomsday" and the streamer's real name. As the date approached, memes about Doomsdale increased on social media. These memes, which included high-quality video edits, hyped the day up like a real holiday. Some people even made official countdown clocks to the day, making sure that Low Tier God never forgot about what he said six years ago.
