This week in memes, the horror movie Obsession gave us an unexpectedly controversial dance trend, a former prison officer's story about a man whipping something up in a kettle shocked the internet, influencer Brent Rivera mogged everybody and more.

Obsession Dance

The hit 2026 horror movie Obsession is still pumping out the memes and trends, and the latest trend on everyone's radar is the so-called Obsession Dance on TikTok.

The Obsession Dance was started back at the end of May by TikToker @sad_i_e. Rather than being set to a song, the dance is set to the audio of the film's famous "No, No, No" scene, in which Nikki has a breakdown during dinner at a restaurant.

It's a pretty dark and uncomfortable scene, making it an arguably strange but darkly funny audio clip to base a dance around.

The dance kept spreading between May and July 2026, but this week it really hit the mainstream after the Flighthouse TikTok page posted a video in which one woman has to guess what dance another woman is doing. She correctly guesses that it's the Obsession dance. This video spread the dance further, but this time, as the subject of criticism.

Most of the criticism centers on the weird tone of setting a dance to such a serious scene and to the movie in general. Others just find it kind of cringe.

Whipping In A Kettle

A truly disgusting story from a former U.K. prison officer about a prisoner whipping something up in a kettle has become short-form video creators' favorite way to rank everything from albums to anime series and beyond.

The story comes from a 2025 episode of The BlueTick Show podcast with ex-prison officer Jeff the Gov. In the episode, Jeff tells stories from his time working at a prison in the U.K.

At one point, he tells a story about a prisoner boiling his own feces in a kettle after being denied the right to leave his cell to eat. It's truly a disgusting tale, and the host of the podcast seems to agree, literally gagging as Jeff tells him about the smell.

This clip resurfaced on Reels and TikTok recently and went viral, but users weren't willing to let it fade back into the shadows. Instead, they turned it into a meme in which Jeff's claim that the prisoner "whipping up" in a kettle is used to describe a subject as bad. Usually, the meme is used to rank things like anime series and albums.

Now, the meme is evolving as users dub over the original audio to make Jeff give glowing and middling reviews by having him talk about the prisoner whipping up "amazing foods" or "indifference."

Brent Rivera Mog

Content creator Brent Rivera has become the subject of a meme trend where he mogs some of the most attractive people of our times simply by existing.

This silly trend recently went viral on TikTok after TikToker @justarandommtn posted a video comparing Brent Rivera's looks to disgraced looksmaxxer Hullo's looks. The video uses some old photos of Rivera to suggest that Rivera mogs Hullo.

From there, the trend evolved to comedically portray Rivera as the ultimate mogger. Some of these memes include funny transitions from one celebrity's face to Rivera's as a way to compare their features.

These memes also claim that nobody can escape the "Rivera Mog," and based on the popularity of the trend, they might be right.

Robert Pattinson "Somebody Get These Beggars Out Of Here"

A Robert Pattinson scene from The Odyssey in which he demands that "somebody get these beggars out of here" has become a major meme across social media, and the movie hasn't even left theaters yet.

In the movie, Robert Pattinson plays Antinous, the leader of the suitors who occupy Odysseus' home during his prolonged absence. Antinous and the other suitors think Odysseus is dead, so they take advantage of his wealth, plot to murder his son and to steal his wife.

When Odysseus gets home, he disguises himself as a beggar and at one point asks Antinous for food. Antinous yells, "Somebody get these beggars out of here!"

This scene was filmed by a pirate somewhere and went viral after it was posted on X / Twitter. The post inspired some discussions and jokes about Pattinson's delivery of the line, as well as a whole lot of memes that reinterpret the line in new contexts.

For example, a meme with the caption, "People in LA with a pool during the summer," using the line, "Somebody get these beggars out of here!" to paint a picture of a person lording over their pool.

Finally, a meme from one of the more devastating scenes in The Sopranos has been going viral on sites like X and Instagram, and it's got everyone asking, "Is that ok, that I sit?"

The meme comes from a scene at the end of the show's second season, where the Soprano family has to whack Salvatore Bonpensiero for being an FBI informant.

Before his life is ended, Salvatore asks Tony if he can sit down, acting as his last words. This has since become one of the most memorable and emotional scenes in the show.

In late May 2026, X users started turning the scene into a meme by editing Bonpensiero into new locations and altering the caption to refer to a new subject.

This meme really blew up over the past week on sites including X, Instagram and Facebook as a mostly AI editing trend where users further alter the scene in funny ways.
