People Loved This Library's 'Hello Kitty' Cards, But One Woman Was Apparently Not Happy
A woman has gone viral on social media for saying that, while in line for a library card, she saw the woman in front of her say the line was full of people who didn’t read and just wanted a cute Hello Kitty card. The video garnered millions of views on both Instagram and TikTok in the 10 days since the story was shared.
Sarah Doerner, @sarahcha.d on both Instagram and TikTok, is a content creator who posts funny skits, opinion videos and updates about her daily life. She’s gone viral on both platforms multiple times, and her latest viral moment has come from an unfortunate encounter at her local public library.
On September 18th, Doerner posted a video on her accounts on both platforms about how she went to the library to renew her card in order to receive a brand new, Hello Kitty-themed library card and how, while she was in line, she saw how the woman in front of her was texting and complaining about the situation.

"To the lady stood in front of me at the public library to get the Hello Kitty collab library card," Doerner said at the beginning of her video, "I saw what your text messages said. I read them, yeah, I read them!"
"And I was not peering over her," she clarified. "She is holding her phone like this," Doerner said, before grabbing a remote and telling her viewers to pretend it was a phone.
She then held the remote up face-level, with her arm sort of outstretched, and pressed the buttons as if she were typing, before turning to the camera with a scandalized expression and laughing.
"So, I'm in line; it's a long line, right? Because everyone wants this cute library card," Doerner explained, holding up her library card, "And some people are there for the first time to get their library card, and some people are there to replace the library card that they already had because they want the cute one. Okay."
Doerner described that, for a little bit, there was a woman who was several people behind them who was coughing, and that she saw the woman in front of her, who was wearing a mask, complaining about it through text. However, this wasn't what bothered Doerner.
"Then there's a sinister turn," Doerner said, as she literally turned her phone around briefly. "Then she says all the people in line are jobless, because they can come here with their full family, and take cards, and they don't even read, and that there should be a one card [maximum] per household," Doerner recounts, looking and sounding angered.
"Let's say that someone did just want the Hello Kitty card, let's say they did," Doerner said. "Now they're signed up for a library card; we're mad about people signing up for a library card? Interesting."
"Four months from now, when they're like, 'oh, I need a book for something' or 'oh, I need to get a CD for something', now they have the ability to," Doerner argued.
"And then they were handing out slips for people who wanted to apply for a new card for the first time or for people replacing a card," she explained. "I was replacing my card; she was also replacing her card."
"In those messages, she says: So many people here are signing up for the first time; they don't even read; I'm an avid reader," Doerner said, doing an impression of this woman.
Doerner then looked flabbergasted, covering her mouth for a brief moment before she removed it to speak. "Now they have the ability and access to free books," she said, before exclaiming an ironic "Oh no!"
"But there was a lovely woman behind me, and we started chatting, and even did a scavenger hunt together, and we got stickers at the end," Doerner said, holding up a Hello Kitty sticker.
"So, it turned out great, but that woman, the woman in front of me: Kick rocks," Doerner concluded.
The video garnered three million views on Instagram and two million views on TikTok, as well as hundreds of thousands of likes and thousands of comments on both platforms.
Commenters overwhelmingly agreed with Doerner and were baffled at the idea that people signing up for library cards was a bad thing.
